The Yellowstone, Madison and Gibbon are some of the many spectacular rivers and streams that bring anglers from all over to vie for wild trout.

The blue-ribbon streams aren’t limited to Yellowstone, however. The Big Hole, Blackfoot, Boulder and Gallatin all share that distinction in addition to the Yellowstone and Madison.

There are guides available and the opportunity to discover a lesser-known spots off the beaten track. Drift boat rentals and gear are available at one of the many fly-fishing shops in the area.

In the winter, Yellowstone country is magically transformed beneath a blanket of snow. Cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and wildlife viewing are some of the most popular activities.

The Pronghorn, pictured here, is one of the fastest land animals in North America, primarily because speed equals survival for this fleet-footed creature.

Buffalo, or Bison, can be up to 6 feet tall and weigh 2,000 pounds. Don’t be fooled by its seemingly gentle-giant appearance. Bison, when annoyed, can react quickly and can run up to 30 miles an hour, much to the dismay of tourists who crowd the animals for photo ops.

Bighorn sheep are often a breath-taking sight as they navigate cliffs and rock ledges. Their ability to remain sure-footed in sheer situations draw attention and gasps. Male sheep have large curved horns designed to fight predators and challenge each other for domination.

Grizzly bears are amongst those better seen from afar. Grizzlies can grow up to 600 pounds and will charge perceived intruders. They are larger than Black Bears, and best observed through binoculars at a safe distance.

Other wildlife include elk, moose, wolf, coyote, swans and eagles, to name a few. Bring a camera and a sharp set of eyes to get the most from your visit.
